Uttar Pradesh Rises to Third Position Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Uttar Pradesh has secured the third position nationwide under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, marking a major milestone in the state’s clean energy journey.

According to recent official data, the state has achieved over 4.69 lakh rooftop solar installations, benefiting more than 4.74 lakh households. The total installed capacity has reached approximately 1,594 MW, reflecting rapid adoption of solar energy across residential sectors.

The pace of implementation has been particularly impressive, with more than 3,000 solar systems being installed ежедневно, highlighting strong execution at the ground level.

Strong Financial and Policy Support

The scheme’s success is also backed by substantial financial assistance. Uttar Pradesh has received over ₹3,000 crore in subsidies, helping make rooftop solar systems affordable for households and accelerating adoption.

Lucknow Emerges as Top Performer

Among all districts, Lucknow has emerged as the top-performing district in India, with more than 86,000 installations, setting a benchmark for other regions to follow.

Innovative Solar Financing Model

A notable initiative has been implemented in Varanasi, where over 1,000 households installed solar systems without any upfront payment. The remaining cost, beyond government subsidies, was covered through CSR support from organizations like the Airports Authority of India. This model is now being considered for expansion to benefit low-income households.

Focus on Faster Expansion

Officials have identified key challenges such as installation delays, net metering approvals, and financing bottlenecks. Efforts are underway to streamline these processes and further accelerate deployment.

With its current growth momentum, Uttar Pradesh is now aiming to move beyond third place and secure the top position nationally in rooftop solar adoption.
